It's 2016 and you are still using shampoo to wash your beard? What gives guys? While there are some great products out there to wash your head hair, times have changed and there are now specific products designed for your beard. In our opinion, The Rustic Beardsman Beard Wash is the best out there (naturally, of course).
WHAT IS A BEARD WASH?
This answer is somewhat simple. Regular shampoos are designed for your head hair and scalp. Your scalp produces something called sebum, from the Sebaceous glands. This is an oily or waxy substance that lubricates and waterproofs the skin on you head and face (sebaceous glands are microscopic and in nearly all areas of your skin). These glands occur in the greatest quantity on your scalp, which requires a much harsher cleanser to attain a clean surface. This is what shampoos are designed for. They are made with a much higher quantity of surfactants, or cleaners than a beard wash specifically designed for your beard would be made with. A premium beard wash will love and support your bearded face.
A PREMIUM BEARD WASH WON'T CONTAIN HARSH SURFACTANTS.
A surfactant is a Surface Acting Agent. It is a compound that will lower the surface tension between liquids and solids. Basically, it is a detergent. Because shampoos are designed for your head hair and scalp, they tend to have harsher surfactants. The surfactant SLS (sodium laureth sulfate) is one particular surfactant you want to avoid in a beard wash. When a beard wash has an extremely high amount of lather, that typically means it has a high amount of surfactants in it. The lather is more of a visual queue for the consumer to know that it is working. The Rustic Beardsman Beard Wash has a gentle, mild lather.
YOUR BEARD DESERVES THE BEST.
We truly believe your beard deserves the best, and that is why we choose to use organic ingredients. If we didn't believe that, we wouldn't be using them ourselves. Your beard is the first thing that most people notice about you, and we want to make sure you have the best looking beard possible. A beardsman will stoke his beard, on average, nearly 700 times a day, and your mustache is directly under your nose. You feel and smell your beard all day long. It's important to take care of the most prominent part of your appearance, so investing in a premium beard wash is important, and will save you from dealing with a damaged, dull, and brittle beard.
